Flying the Lion of Judah Flag Over Baghdad |
|
Belle Ochs dyed this beautiful silk "Lion of Judah" flag for my trip to Iraq. I thought that flying a Christian symbol from the highest vantage point in all of southern Iraq would be lots of fun, not to mention Spiritually significant. It proved to be a wonderful blessing not only to me but to many of the U.S. troops I served with. This photo was taken on Thanksgiving Day 2005, just as the sun was going down. We had the battalion commander, the chaplain and his assistant in attendance on the roof of Saddam's palace for the flying of the flag. This palace is the oldest one in the country and widely considered to be the actual personal residence of Saddam and his two sons. Ten days later the battalion commander requested that we fly the flag again. He related to me that an operation was commencing to round up insurgents and that "We need the blessing of God to be with us as we do the Lord's work". So we climbed back up to the summit and had another ceremony with the reading of Old Testament warfare scriptures. Yes, God blessed the operation mightily! The scriptures are as follows: Ps.149:6-9, Ps. 58:6-11, Jer. 51:12-13, and 20-25. Charles Ochs Baghdad, Iraq Thanksgiving Day, 2005 |
